Alloy steel plate is supplied in a range of grades developed for applications requiring higher strength, improved hardenability, better wear resistance, or greater performance under elevated temperature and demanding service conditions.

Common alloy steel grades can be supplied in different thicknesses, dimensions, and surface conditions according to project or purchasing requirements. Typical grades include 4140, 4130, 4340, 5140, 8620, and other alloy steel grades used for structural, pressure vessel, machinery, and industrial applications.

For export orders, alloy steel plate can be prepared according to the required grade, size, quantity, packing method, and shipping destination.

Alloy Steel Plate Supply

Available supply can be arranged for different alloy steel plate specifications, including:

  • 4140 Alloy Steel Plate for machinery, tooling, shafts, and heavy-duty components
  • 4130 Alloy Steel Plate for structural and mechanical applications requiring good strength and toughness
  • 4340 Alloy Steel Plate where high strength and toughness are required
  • 5140 Alloy Steel Plate for mechanical and engineering components
  • 8620 Alloy Steel Plate for carburizing and wear-resistant components
  • Other alloy steel grades can be discussed according to required standards and application conditions

Available dimensions can be matched to project requirements, with cutting and shipment arrangements available where practical.

Common Alloy Steel Plate Grades

Grade Typical Characteristics Common Applications
4130 Good strength, toughness and weldability Machinery, structural components, tubular applications
4140 High strength and good hardenability Shafts, gears, machinery parts, tooling
4340 High strength with good toughness Heavy-duty machinery and highly stressed components
5140 Chromium alloy steel with good hardenability Gears, shafts, axles and engineering components
8620 Nickel-chromium-molybdenum carburizing steel Gears, pinions and wear-resistant components

Grade availability may vary according to size, specification, and order requirements.

Alloy Steel Plate Specifications

Alloy steel plates can be supplied according to the applicable material specification and required dimensions.

Item Supply Range
Product Alloy Steel Plate
Thickness Available according to grade and order requirements
Width Standard and customized sizes
Length Standard and cut-to-length options
Surface As rolled, shot blasted, or other agreed condition
Edge Mill edge or cut edge
Cutting Available according to order requirements

For special thicknesses, dimensions, or less common grades, availability should be confirmed before ordering.

4140 Alloy Steel Plate

4140 alloy steel plate is a chromium-molybdenum alloy steel commonly selected for mechanical components requiring a combination of strength, toughness, and hardenability.

It is frequently used for:

  • Heavy machinery components
  • Shafts and axles
  • Gears and sprockets
  • Tooling components
  • Industrial equipment
  • High-stress mechanical parts

The final condition of 4140 plate, including as-rolled, normalized, annealed, or heat-treated supply, should be specified according to the intended processing and application.

4130, 4340 and Other Alloy Grades

Different alloy steel grades provide different combinations of strength, toughness, hardenability, machinability, and heat-treatment response.

4130 is commonly considered where good strength and toughness are required together with relatively good weldability.

4340 is used for more demanding high-strength applications where toughness and fatigue resistance are important.

5140 is commonly used for gears, shafts, axles, and other engineering components.

8620 is particularly suitable for components requiring a hard wear-resistant surface with a tougher core after carburizing.

Selecting the correct grade depends on the required mechanical properties, heat treatment, fabrication method, and service environment.

Alloy Steel Plate for Industrial Applications

Alloy steel plate is used across a wide range of industrial and engineering applications where ordinary carbon steel may not provide the required performance.

Common applications include:

Pressure Vessels & Process Equipment

Chromium-molybdenum grades such as A387 are used in boilers, pressure vessels, heat exchangers, refineries, and high-temperature process equipment.

Heavy Machinery

Grades such as 4140 and 4340 are used for demanding machinery and mechanical components where high strength and toughness are required.

Gears & Transmission Components

Grades including 5140 and 8620 are widely associated with gears, shafts, pinions, axles, and other components requiring controlled mechanical properties.

Industrial Engineering

Alloy steel grades are also used in tooling, structural components, energy equipment, mining machinery, and other engineered systems.

Alloy Steel Plate Supply for Export

Alloy steel plate orders can be prepared according to the requirements of overseas buyers, including grade, dimensions, quantity, packing, and shipping arrangements.

Export orders can include:

  • Bundled or palletized plate packing where suitable
  • Steel strapping for secure handling
  • Protective packaging for long-distance transportation
  • Cut-to-size plates where required
  • Mixed sizes or grades where practical for shipment consolidation
  • Export documentation according to order requirements
  • Shipping arrangements for containerized or bulk cargo

For alloy steel products, the exact grade and applicable specification should be confirmed before production or shipment because chemical composition, mechanical properties, heat treatment, and certification requirements vary between grades.
